Jamie Blume

Jamie Blume, founder of Along Their Way, empowers parents of teens and young adults in treatment and transition to let go of the unchangeable past, be present with the ebbs and flows of today, and accept an unpredictable future. Through parent mentoring, holistic wellness coaching, and community-building group retreats, Jamie guides parents along their own parallel journey so that they may more effectively nurture their child and also increase their own self care, self-awareness, and self-compassion.

Jamie brings professional experience as a trained parent mentor and as a holistic wellness coach as well as personal experience as a mom of a struggling teen who participated in a wilderness program, attended a therapeutic boarding school and took part in after care. Jamie brings unique insight and compassion—for the parents—to the process.

Live and Learn

Many professionals teach, guide and counsel based on their theoretical study and degree. Live and Learn operates from a different angle, EXPERIENCE. Not only have we studied the intricacies of communication and the Wilderness process, but we have lived the experience first hand with a child. You will be supported through your family process from an advocate who has not only has the knowledge through books and a degree, but has personally been through the process.

Mark Parlett: Fresh Tracks Educational Consulting

Mark Parlett

Educational and Therapeutic Consultant

Parent and Life Coach

I am an independent Educational Consultant, the programs on this site are not my programs. I do not receive incentives to refer to these or any programs and strongly feel it would be unethical to do so. I refer to these type of programs when they are an appropriate fit for my clients. However, many of my clients are not appropriate for outdoor programs and I refer them to therapeutic boarding schools, residential treatment centers and traditional boarding schools. I solely work for my clients. My role is to assess all programs/ schools that are the best fit for my clients. I strongly value the research OBH Council conducts and the standards they require of their members.

30+ years ago I was a student in a wilderness program. That experience had a profound positive impact on my life. Now, as an Educational Consultant, Life and Parent Coach, my clients (Ages 10-18 and young adults 18-30+)  come from across the United States to capitalize on my 20+ years of experience in therapeutic programming, design and assessment. I regularly travel around the country and internationally to assess schools and programs, visiting 50 – 100 yearly.

The depth of my experience gives me a unique ability to evaluate programs by assessing critical aspects, including the academic structure, clinical effectiveness, special needs resources, risk management, financial stability and most importantly, who they serve best.

Potomac Programs

Potomac Programs has experience dealing with a variety of behavioral and emotional challenges. We’re taking on the Big Hairy Audacious Goal of bringing anxiety, depression, and suicides among those we love to all-time lows by 2028.

Most teens and young adults that take part in our treatment programs truly enjoy the experience. Here’s what they tell us they like most about Potomac Programs: the warm, welcoming, and non-institutional atmosphere, the experiential elements of the program, the supportive staff, and the positive peer culture of teens and young adults who are serious about making progress with recovery and wellness.

How do we do it? We integrate many important program elements that keep young people engaged, interested, and invested. Research points to this conclusion: keeping young people invested in treatment longer results in better outcomes. In fact, practically everything we do in our programs is based on current research in the field of behavioral healthcare that has been demonstrated to improve successful outcomes for teens and young adults.

Sky’s the Limit Fund

Founded in 2010, Sky’s the Limit Fund (STLF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to transform the lives of youth in crisis and their families by providing access to wilderness therapy programs, coaching services to guide families during the transition home, and outreach to educate the community on the benefits of wilderness therapy. Our vision is for youth to achieve their full potential as healthy and valued members of society. STLF believes that cost should not be a barrier to any family seeking effective and lasting treatment for their child’s mental health illness. STLF’s Wilderness Therapy Support Program includes access to wilderness therapy, the STLF Family Coaching Service and Parent/Guardian support. STLF provides financial assistance to offset the high cost of wilderness therapy. We partner with 10 wilderness therapy programs across the United States and we require our partners to match our funding with a reduction in tuition, further reducing the financial burden for the family. Our Family Coaching Service is offered free-of-charge to all STLF families. This 12-15 week service involves the entire family and Coaches lay out a weekly curriculum, which includes phone calls, homework and psycho-educational materials. We also offer this program to non-STLF families for a fee of $1,500. In addition, STLF provides guidance, mentors and resources to help families successfully navigate the treatment process.

Sonya Rodriguez

Sonya is currently finishing her PhD. Her dissertation topic is around family therapy while adolescents are in treatment. Her second main emphasis is working with Homeward Bound as a transition coach.

I love working with families who have adolescents coming out of wilderness. I’ve witnessed incredible family healing and new ways of being together. My role is to give parents hope, help them not parenting out of fear, and remind all family members of the incredible skills they learned while their loved one was in wilderness/treatment.

I have Emotionally Focused Family Therapy training (EFT) and Attachment Based family therapy (ABFT). I am becoming EMDR trained as well. I also do crisis work with the Red Cross and a few other local organizations in the Dallas Ft Worth metroplex.
